Helping businesses become stronger for their next owner.
We work with founder-led businesses and investors to understand the organisational reality behind financial performance and prepare for change.

Why I do this work
After nearly twenty-three years working alongside founder-led businesses, one question keeps coming up: “What happens to this place when the founders step back?”
I have watched businesses go through trade sales, private equity, employee ownership trusts, management buyouts and family successions. The numbers get the attention, but whether the business can perform without the people who built it can materially affect the outcome.
A buyer is not just buying past performance. They are buying what happens after the founders step back. Much of that judgement concerns things that never appear in a spreadsheet: how much still runs through the founders, whether the leadership team decides or waits, whether know-how is documented or lives in a few people’s heads, and whether clients know the company or just a few key people.
That is the work I do. I help founders strengthen their leadership teams, give people clear responsibility and reduce how much depends on them personally. That helps the business perform better today, supports growth and gives founders more options when they decide to step back.
“Everything entrusted to us should be stronger because we were responsible for it.”
Preparing for employee ownership

Performance Communications is a privately owned communications agency of around 50 people. Its founders transitioned the business to an Employee Ownership Trust in 2024.
Since 2021, the work has included exploring ownership options, management development, coaching and assessments, and developing the next generation of leaders.
“The first day we spent with Mike didn’t give us answers — it gave us the right questions about what our exit could look like, which was far more useful. Since then Mike has played an integral role in helping to develop our management team’s evolution both in preparation for and since transitioning to an EOT.
